May 31, 2005"Government action to ban the sale of such knives," they wrote, "would drastically reduce their availability over the course of a few years." Yep, Big Nanny is after kitchen knives now. Three British doctors wrote an article in the British Medical Journal recommending banning the sale of sharp kitchen knives and replacing them with "safer, blunter" instruments. Best start hiding your hammers, screw drivers, saws and drills. They can't be far behind in Nanny's efforts to protect us from ourselves. On the same page as the knife story are some news items of a more humorous nature. Check out the one about a drunken idiot who jumps out of a speeding car to retrieve his dropped cigarette. (Fox News) May 27, 2005In Vancouver, WA, USA, a guy stopped his car by a lake and got out to take a leak. While in the process of relieving himself, his Honda Accord rolled down the boat ramp, and sank. He then called 911, who ordered up a wrecker and divers. A submerged car was soon found and winched out. Imagine the look on the divers' faces when the owner told them it wasn't his car. The third time was a charm. In addition to the guy's car, four stolen cars were recovered. Evidently car thieves had been using the lake for a dumping ground. (link RIP) May 25, 2005Beware of where your dog poops, Big Nanny may be watching.... A Vienna, Austria, lawmaker has proposed a new law to DNA test dog droppings left in unlawful places. The test results would then be used to find and punish the dog's owner. This leaves one question begging: How will the City will acquire DNA samples to compare the offending droppings against? Think about that one for a while. (link RIP) Men, if you ever thought about picking up a quick $50.00 for a sperm donation, you might want to think again. Evidently child support may come back to haunt you. For all the legal ramifications see the article. (Fox News). May 23, 2005In advertising news, JibJab has produced a commercial for Budweiser. As with all Anheuser-Busch Internet ads you have to plug in your birthdate prior to viewing. Wonder how they get around that on TV if it's so important. Anyway, the ad is good, and features a Miller man getting trampled by the Clydesdales. Moviegoers in an Eaton, NJ theater may have thought that they'd been transported to a different galaxy when they went to see the newest Star Wars episode. Due to a reel mixup the actors started speaking in Japanese part way through the showing. Must have been quite a scene with the movie blaring in Japanese and the Joysians shouting to stop the film. Patrons were offered refunds or passes to future showings. May 20, 2005
Courtney Van Dunk, a 21 year old college student in New Jersey, is auctioning off rights to place temporary tattoos on herself for advertising purposes. This certainly is a new twist on women selling their bodies. One wonders what will be advertised and where. I suppose temp-tat May 19, 2005Just added a new daily cartoon feature by Terry Wallbank of Tessatoons. Please check it out. He does some really great work. Nice to have some cartoons in the mix. More toons are can be seen on his site. Also, I installed a "booby trap" a few days ago. See if you can find it. It's best viewed with eyes wide open and the volume turned up all the way (lol). Look forward to more little surprises in the future and perhaps a few big ones. In Internet news "phishing" vigilantes have appeared on the scene. Going after fake bank websites they replace the fraudsters' pages with their own. See the report from Netcraft. May 12, 2005Environmentalists in Ireland are protesting the building of a new highway outside of Dublin. The area in question is called the "Hill of Tara", an old earthen fort now indistinguishable from the surrounding rolling hills. The bottom line here is that the protesters appear to be over one hundred years too late. In 1901-02 British fortune hunters tore up the remnants of the site in search of the Ark of the Covenant. Might make a good movie. May 2, 2005An article in Parade Sunday reported that the Russians were going to sell off some of their old T-34 tanks in "operating condition". I did a quick Lycos search on T-34 and sure enough there were tanks and more. Rembember that old James Garner movie Tank? Well here's your chance. Now for the kicker. Along with your new used Russian tank you can get a Russian bride to go along with it, all on the same website! Check out their homepage after you look at the tanks (link RIP @5/19).
